Course description and objectives:

The New Controller Guidebook describes each responsibility of the new controller and shows you how to manage each one as efficiently as possible. Topics also include the financial statements, closing the books, budgeting, and computer system selection.

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • ·         Describe the accounting for basic equity-related transactions.

  • ·         Describe how to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the payroll department, as well as how to account for common payroll transactions.

  • ·         Explain the techniques available for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the work flow of the accounting department.

  • ·         Demonstrate the various steps needed to close the books and issue financial statements.

  • ·         Describe the financial statements and the different types of available reporting formats.

  • ·         Explain the additional financial reporting requirements of a publicly-held company.

  • ·         Discuss the types of management reports to issue, and the reporting concerns related to each one.

  • ·         Describe how the various components of the budget are assembled to create a complete budget package.

  • ·         Explain the various methods for reviewing and subsequently evaluating a capital budgeting proposal.
